![]() In the end it's all about target audience - people like Cook and Bieber appeal to the majority. This also beautifully explains why Justin Bieber is similarly despised, and why people seem to love to hate him. Celebration of mediocrity is absolutely rife in western culture, and it breeds bitterness. ![]() Totally agree with your post, especially the second part. Inside the comedy world he's hated because his talent isn't equal to the amount of fame and praise he has. Basically, after being told how amazingly funny he is by everyone around me, knowing full well there are better comedians out there, I start to take it out on Dane Cook, and hate him for it. Combine that with the fact that his comedy seeped out of the comic world into mainstream media it causes hate. He should only be a 5 in my mind but he has the fame of a 10. Personally, on a scale of 1-10 I would put him about a 5. Why Dane Cook is so hated: I stated why I and why I assume most stand-up lovers don't find him that funny. Personally I find the second type of joke more enjoyable, and I think people who dive deep into stand up often times feel the same way. The thought put into the joke is humorous, regardless of the way it is told (Although with Mitch his personality tends to add even more humor). On the other hand, if I read a Mitch Hedberg joke, just the words, not imagining his personality, they tend to still be funny. If I sit down a read just the words of one of his jokes, they really aren't that funny, they tend to just be something that happened. He's very energetic, and has good timing, but it's his personality that makes him funny, not the actual words he is saying. Why I don't find him funny: I don't think his jokes are very creative. This might just get downvoted to oblivion but I hope to at least hear a convincing argument or two before that happens. Personally, I don't find myself disliking something without having a legitimate reason to. I mean before I knew it was uncool to find him funny, I found myself chuckling at a joke or two of his, and I've seen people chuckle at his routines and then proceed to openly hate him and say he wasn't funny. Some people say they don't like him because they don't find him funny well, that's subjective and there are comedians that are way less funny than him but don't get any hate at all. Hopefully I get some answer other than a canned "because he sucks".ĭon't get me wrong, I don't actually like him or anything (I'd say I'm indifferent to him) but he seems to garner the same kind of hate as Justin Bieber people just seem to like hating him, and I've yet to hear a compelling reason for why. I'm not challenging anyone, I legitimately want to know.
